Armenia - Turkey

The whole city is like counting minutes before the Armenia - Turkey match tomorrow. For several days it was noticeable. There were "guards of the Turkish flag" - policemen standing in front of the match's poster near the opera, not to let vandals defile it. Otherwise they would have to replace the poster with a new one several times a day. People are passing by wearing the red "hummel" jersey of Armenian team, everybody's asking where are you going to watch the match. Today when i was coming home in the late evening, i noticed that the traces of demonstrations were erased from the upper part of the Northern Avenue. There were no posters, no people.
There were lots of Turkish people on the square, in Vernissage. I couldn't not to recognize the Turkish speech. Right one year ago i was there in Istanbul.

As my friends forbade me to go to the stadium (since my vocabulary could suddenly be increased with not-so-favorable words), i decided to watch it in a "girls-only" company :) we reserved a table in Square One and will be watching it there.

I like to be in the center of the major events. I will be following the reactions on the streets tomorrow during and after the match right in the center. Hopefully they will be joyful and peaceful  =)
I've heard of a lot of people being scared going to the stadium and people anticipating negative things. I think it's all bullshit.

....
An interesting thing happened to me today. I was sitting in one of the cafes of the opera surrounding with my friends when the first president of the Republic of Armenia came and sat at the table text to us. Of course there were guards following him, occupying the rest of free tables nearby and also standing near him. Then other people came and joined him, unfortunately i didn't recognize anybody since i'm bad at remembering our local political figures' faces. People were staring.. some of my friends were even scared :-) To me it was just interesting sitting so close to such a historical person. I won't go further with my political views, neither i would express my opinion about him, just that i couldn't not to notice all his charisma and authority by the way he was sitting, smoking and talking.
We also made the guards nervous when decided to take photos of ourselves (different views ;) :D

p.s. i was wearing a jacket tonight... autumn is here...

Explosions in the Sky

This is my new music discovery - "Explosions in the Sky". I heard a part of "Your Hand in Mine" song in the trailer to the "Le Scaphandre et le Papillon" and absolutely loved it!
It's kind of similar to Sigur Ros and Mogwai (from what i know).

"It's an American instrumental post-rock band from Texas. The band has garnered popularity beyond the post-rock scene for their cinematic, elaborately developed guitar work, narratively styled instrumentals, what they refer to as "cathartic mini-symphonies," and their enthusiastic and emotional live shows." (from the Wiki)

On the russian version of their last.fm page there's a note about the band's name:
"Название коллектива “Explosions In The Sky” родилось в ночь 4 июля 1999 года. Вся Америка праздновала «День Независимости». А четверо музыкантов смотрели на ночное небо, разорванное многочисленными салютам и фейерверками."
Some remarks:
  • The song "Your Hand in Mine" was played during a look back at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony on NBC.
  • "First Breath After Coma" was used in the trailer for the 2005 film Shopgirl.
  • The title track from Placebo's Sleeping With Ghosts contains a reference to the band's name. (This is my absolute favorite song of Placebo)
Will try to upload the "Your Hand in Mine" tomorrow :)

Be positive :)

addio l'estate, autunno benvenuto

Le scaphandre et le papillon

Le scaphandre et le papillon (The Diving Bell and The Butterfly)

Just watched this film. The title was very familiar, just didn't remember where I've heard about it... must be that one of my friends mentioned it or was it among Golden Apricot film list this year? not sure.. anyways...

It's a biographical film about Elle France editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, who, in 1995 at the age of 43, suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body, except his left eye. Using that eye to blink out his memoir, Bauby eloquently described the aspects of his interior world, from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands he'd only visited in his mind.

I would say that i really liked the movie, the way it was filmed the emotions it brought and thoughts. Some scenes were bringing tears, some were hard to watch (like when they were sewing his right eye). I liked to see the world through his eye and feel in a scaphandre like him. Some parts were annoying like trying to imagine the dictation the book through blinking just his left eyelid and imagining to see the entire process in the film.
I liked the scenes with his dad... very touching. This film reminded me of the Vanilla Sky and Abre los Ojos...

I read that Johnny Depp was originally set to pay the lead role but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. I think he would be nice in the role just that i don't know how he would speak French :)

I also liked the soundtrack and score though I wouldn't say that i ran to download something, still it was nice especially the ending titles.

Film has got plenty of awards, including 4 nominations for Oscar.
